Davis Fields > MISSION ACCOMPLISHED?

George Bush proclaims "mission accomplished" in Iraq on May 1, 2003. The war only intensified after that date.
Davis Fields > "Anxious Times" forum at Stanford. Ted Koppel moderated a two-hour panel that included (clockwise from top) Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, associate supreme court justice Anthony Kennedy, former secretary of state George Schultz, Stanford president John Hennessey, former secretary of defense William Perry, biology researcher and professor Dr. Lucy Shapiro, and GlaxoSmithKline CEO Jean-Pierre Garnier. It was a hair-raising look at North Korea's nuclear calabilities, our preparedness (or lack thereof) for pandemics and biological terrorism, the state of US public K-12 education, the dumbing down of the media and the rabid partisanship of the US political system. But it was encouraging to know that smart people are at least having thoughtful conversations about these topics, and that a few thousand Bay Area residents used two hours of their Saturday morning to learn more. This event took place on Saturday, October 12, 2006
